May 22, South Lake Tahoe to Truckee

After yesterday's shopping at Patagonia with Diana, Wendy, Linda, Susan and Diane I felt very confidant that the predicted cold for our morning departure would be under control. The temperature was under 40 when we left with a bright sunny sky over head making all a perfect riding start. We left close to 7:30A after a really nice hotel breakfast. I had scrambled eggs with sausage and toast. We got out early for a change, I'm the one who always seems just a wee bit behind and am so happy that Diane waits for me to get it all together. It was just a beautiful ride! Both Diane and I had done the first part of the ride in the past by having done the Ride de Tahoe. So we knew the Emerald Bay climb was coming up. But oh well, we've now climbed the dreadful Monitor. However, I did decide to stop part way up, a big mistake for me, not Diane though. It was so steep I couldn't get going, after the 4th try I had to walk to a little flatter space before I could get going. Something I must practice!
Beautiful Tahoe morning!

A special treat, hot air balloon!

Riding with Diane and Fiona. I love the colors they're wearing!

Beautiful Emeral Bay island

Waterfalls in the background.

We spent a lot of our ride on lovely bike paths taking us off of Route 89 and through gorgeous scenery. Diane and I kept passing and being passed by 2 young fellows from Tahoe City. When we reached Truckee we all ended up at the same coffee house where we shared a table and conversation. One of the joys of this type ride are nice and interesting people you get to meet. We had chicken soup and a too spicy grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Wonder what Emily is making tonight? I hear we get to eat inside in one of the hotel's conference rooms. Yay!

  2. I did America's Most Beautiful Ride around Lake Tahoe and out to Truckee and back the first year I started cycling. What a beautiful ride! I remember the climb to Emerald Bay as being challenging😊

  3. Good job Gail !! You must have been happy to have shopped for extra layers yesterday. And I'm glad to see you weren't tempted "to leave early" and head back with all the girls who visited yesterday :)
