May 10, Palmdale to Tehachapi

What is it with the wind? We arrived into Palmdale yesterday hanging on to our bikes and the same today arriving into Tehachapi! Amazing wind farms, solar panel farms and huge electrical structures, maybe they're farms of a sort also.
It was quite a ride today. After our 7200 ft climb yesterday legs were sore to start our ride this morning. The first 40 miles were very friendly. Then it came into sight, the mountain that was to be climbed in order to get to Tehachapi. Oh well, put your head down and think pleasant thoughts. Diane and I rode with Fiona and our guide, Patty for most of the climb. I take the sweep position going up because they're faster.

Moon flower, very pretty and a hallucinogenic

Vast landscape during our flat ride.

The wind turbines are just amazing!

This we saw on the last of our downhill ride, so very welcoming! We stopped at a local pub/saloon for lunch. I had a wonderful hamburger and am now looking forward to an Emily dinner. Tom has sent Sherri's Berries for all of us for our dessert tonite. Thank you Sweetie😘. They were loved by all!
Tomorrow is our first day off and much needed. Diane and I are roomies for our day off and finished laundry, really a big deal. Since we are only 15 riders total, plus 1 guide and 1 cook everything is so much easier. Just doing laundry goes smoothly. Now for needed rest!

  1. Great work Gail and Diane. I'm loving reading your blogs and wish I was with you except for the windy bits. That is my least liked weather feature. Enjoy your well deserved day off tomorrow :)

  2. Hi Gail, and other bike buddies (Susan Gillies? Patty and Emily). I am enjoying the blogs. BUT a day like today confirms my decision that the Sierra Cascades ride would have been too hard for me. I am, however, excited about Route 66 in 2018!!
