4/15/16 Mt Diablo climb

Wendy and I left home at 7A for the 2 hour drive to Alamo where we met Diane and Nita. Today we were there to climb Mt Diablo, it's only 12 miles from where we parked to the top. What's 12 miles? Well, it's 3 1/2 hrs and almost 3394 feet of switchback climbing. And it's beautiful! This is a view from where we all met up and stored with Nita in the car extra clothing not now needed.

Here we are taking a break before we start back up.

Wendy climbing strong and almost smiling.

At the top, yay, we put back on all discarded clothing. It was so cold and very windy. Really not such a fun downhill due to very strong wind gusts. But oh so much easier on the legs but harder on the hands,  gripping and feathering the breaks. What took almost 1 1/2 hrs to climb 3.4 from a rest stop at the Ranger Station to the top took 14 mins to descend. Next we continued the downhill to the cars and most importantly, lunch! It was a good training day for Diane and myself and Wendy's strength was fully there. Nita always knows where to find us and be there for support. Thanks to good friends!
